Ellis swaps broomstick for song book Kerry Ellis, the West End leading lady who has recently starred in hit musical Wicked on both sides of the Atlantic, will appear without her regular green make-up for two special concert performances at the Shaw theatre this summer. London venues embraced in young people’s free theatre scheme Arts Council England today announced the successful applicants for its pilot scheme which aims to offer 618,000 free theatre tickets to under 26-year-olds over the next two years. The list of successful theatres includes many of London’s top off-West End venues. Lyric Hangs On to family entertainment The Lyric Hammersmith will stage an unusual new family show as part of its spring season. Hang On, which plays from 15 to 25 April, is a circus-inspired aerial show in which daring performers create a giant human mobile high above the theatre’s main stage. Tennant recovery leads to hopes of Hamlet return David Tennant, who withdrew from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production of Hamlet earlier this month due to a prolapsed disc, is making a good recovery and could rejoin the show in its final week (5-10 January).
